Codemasters considering implementation of DAS system in F1 2020

Mercedes surprised everyone during the winter tests with the Dual Axis Steering system, or DAS system. There has been a lot to it, but so far we haven't been able to see it in action during races. If Mercedes starts using this system, which is within the rules, Red Bull Racing will protest. So that could create interesting situations, but it also brings a nice challenge for Codemasters.
Codemasters is currently working on the game F1 2020 and that should duplicate the sport to the screen where possible. Then, of course, a DAS system cannot be missing and the developer is now looking at possibilities to implement that in the game. Against Racefans, game director Lee Mather has indicated that they are now discussing this.
Incorporating the DAS system into the game is not possible, because it comes with quite a few complications, but it's not out of the question. Mather: "The moment we heard about it, we were thinking, 'Is that real? And then we saw the video in which Lewis pushes and pulls it and then you think: 'That's incredible.'
At the release of the game on July 10, the DAS system will not yet be present, but there is a chance that it will be added to the game later by means of an update. "I can't give a definitive answer about the DAS system and whether it will be in the game."
The game has been in development for a long time and the DAS system, the introduction at least, is from just three months ago. That's "very late" for the development of a game, and a complication that the development team faces is that there are too few buttons on the controller. "The implications of adding such a feature requires an extra button on the controller and that's incredibly difficult when you consider that there aren't enough buttons to allow players to interact with anything."
The game is now in a final phase and implementing such a feature now has much effect on the existing systems and how the cars react in the game. Also the way it is presented to the player is something to look at. It is not included in the release, but it is by no means excluded.
