Abiteboul sees Alonso as an option for 2021: "Take the time to think"

Cyril Abiteboul has confirmed that Fernando Alonso has the option of replacing Daniel Ricciardo. However, the team boss of Renault argues that for the time being the focus is on performing in 2020 and for this reason the Frenchman also finds it crazy that McLaren and Ferrari presented the drivers for 2021 so early in the year.
"There are several options, Alonso is one of them, but there are several excellent drivers available for 2021", let Abiteboul hint to RMC Sport. Possibly Sebastian Vettel is also on the list. The four-time world champion leaves Ferrari after 2020 and is still looking for a seat.
A return of Alonso would mean a third era of the Spaniard at Renault. Between 2002-2006 and 2008-2009, the 38-year-old driver also competed for the French brand.
Renault doesn't go after the competition
Esteban Ocon is already fixed for 2021, but Renault is in no hurry to announce its second driver. "We'll take the time to think, because it's an extremely important decision," says Abiteboul. "We find the politics of Ferrari and McLaren strange that they have already made other plans for the future when the season hasn't even started yet. We don't want to follow this example".
