Magnussen: "If I have to pay for this seat, I won't be here"

Kevin Magnussen will start his fourth year with the Haas team in 2020 and has profiled himself as the first rider there in the past year. He is therefore very satisfied with his employer and hopes to stay in the coming years, but not at any cost.

Due to the corona crisis, several teams have run into financial problems in recent months and if these difficult times continue, it's not crazy to think that more and more teams will opt for a driver who brings a lot of money. With Haas this is not yet the case, but Magnussen already covers himself.

"They have an option on me and I hope they use it. I am sure that Haas will be a good place to be in the coming years. But as soon as we have to pay for the seats, I won't be there anymore. I'm not able and willing to bring the necessary funds", he told Danish tabloid BT.

Magnussen hopes to take advantage of budget ceiling

Quite a striking statement considering the fact that Jack&Jones is on the rear wing mainly thanks to him. Despite this warning, Magnussen is also positive about the financial future of the team.

"There will now be a budget ceiling that is close to our budget. It is still more than Haas used, but it will force many of the other teams to cut back, which puts us in a stronger situation. It means we can continue virtually unchanged, while many of the competitors will be forced to make cuts. Then it will be interesting!"
