F1 talking to Ferrari about second race in Italy, but not at Monza
- GPblog.com
Ferrari may be able to hold its 1000th race in Italy. The calendar up to the eighth race at Monza has been announced and that eighth race this season will be the 999th in total for Ferrari.
Second Italian race
According to RaceFans.net, Formula 1 would have contacted Ferrari about a possible second race in Italy at the Mugello circuit. Ferrari is the owner of this circuit and the race would have to be held a week after the Italian GP at Monza.
There will already be several back-to-back races this season. The Red Bull Ring and Silverstone will be visited twice. Reportedly Ferrari has already reacted positively to the idea of the race at Mugello.
No unknown territory
Although the circuit in Tuscany has never organised a Grand Prix weekend, it is not unfamiliar with Formula 1 cars. In 2012 Mugello was visited for the last time for a test in the middle of the Formula 1 season. Imola would initially also have a chance to host an extra Grand Prix in Italy, but due to the limitations surrounding the corona virus this is no longer an option.
