No shakedown for Haas. "I'm not worried"
- GPblog.com
Many teams have a test day, so that the team and the drivers can get used to the car. Haas' team doesn't intend to do that, team boss Guenther Steiner says.
There is almost half a year between the last test days and the first Grand Prix of the year. The teams will certainly have to get used to the usual course of events.
Several teams have therefore organized a test day or are still planning to do so. Haas is an exception to this rule. "We're not gonna organize a shakedown. You have to use a shooting day for that and we simply don't have the capacity for that", Steiner said during a press conference at GPUpdate.net.
The outspoken team boss also thinks that the employees at Haas don't need a test day. "The drivers are ready for it with us. I don't think they will need a lot of training. Such a day is nice to do, but it is not a priority for us at the moment".
Testing corona measures
Besides a warm-up for the drivers and mechanics, a test day is also a convenient way to test the corona measures. In Austria, teams will have to work at a safe distance from each other for the first time. "I will certainly not deny that it is a disadvantage for us, but it is not that important. Our people are already working together in the factory and they also do social distancing there. So I'm not worried. We'll practice the protocols in the pit box."
"If you have the funds for a day like this, you will. We just need to take a little more risk. I know we have good people on our team and we will use them wisely", the team boss concludes confidently.
