Whereas in Europe people are very reluctant to reopen public venues and especially to allow audiences to attend events, in the United States they are pushing ahead. Last weekend on Road America the first race weekend with spectators was already organized and the Indianapolis 500 is also planned to take place with spectators.

The 104th edition of the biggest racing event in the world is currently scheduled for August 23rd and every effort is being made to have it take place with full grandstands. Sports Business Daily reporter Adam Stern reports on twitter that some 175,000 tickets have already been sold.

Although it is not clear how many of those tickets were sold before the coronavirus outbreak, it can be assumed that a significant part of those tickets will turn up if the legislation allows it. And it seems so, because although the IndyCar race on the GP circuit of Indianapolis next week will be driven without spectators, the state of Indiana is expected to reopen public life in the coming month.

Roger Penske, the new owner of the Speedway has already indicated that he is willing to postpone the 500 further if the race has to be held without spectators. If it doesn't work out in August, he already has a new date in October in mind.
