Alexander Albon came into action on Thursday at the Silverstone circuit in preparation for the first race in Austria next week. Albon said earlier to be happy to be in the car and shake off the dust a little, it was also a good way for the team to experience working under the corona protocols.

Seamless

The pandemic is not over yet, so Formula 1 will apply all kinds of safety measures during the upcoming races. These include less personnel, personal protective equipment and much more. This changes the work situation somewhat, but for Alexander Albon it makes little difference.

"I’ve been in regular contact with the guys on my side of the garage since Melbourne, so things haven’t changed too much and it was easy to get that understanding again. It was also good for everyone to get used to the new COVID-19 protocols and it’s been pretty seamless", sayd Albon to Motorsportweek.com.

In other words, the protocols create a different situation, but in practice - if we read between the lines - there is no obstacle for Albon and the team. "Overall it was a good opportunity to get back in touch with everything and to get back into that racing mindset."

Getting used to the procedures

Also for team boss Christian Horner it took some getting used to, but according to him it will be the new standard when they start in Austria. "As a trial run this has been great for the team to enable them to get used to these procedures, which are a little bit foreign, but which are vitally important."

"By the time we get to Austria, these procedures will be the new normal and [the test] ensures that everybody knows what’s expected of them when we get to Austria. It’s important for the safety of our team and everyone around us in Formula 1."
