Ocon: Compared to Australia, the Renault RS20 will now be "very different"
- GPblog.com
Despite the many limitations caused by the corona pandemic, Renault has been able to do some work on the RS20 since the winter test. The result is that the team will come up with several updates for the car next weekend, making it quite different from the model in Australia. That's what Ocon says, looking optimistically ahead to the start of the season in Austria.
Updates
Talking to Racefans, Esteban Ocon says: "Of course there’s been a lot of work going on before the factories have been shut down. The car is going to very different to the one we were supposed to arrive in Australia, which is also crazy because some of the parts we will never have driven."
Whether that is enough to put the fire to the competition we will see next week, Friday will be very important for Renault recognizes Ocon. During the free practice sessions the team will have to collect a lot of data and then they can see if the updates are really useful.
"But that’s exciting. It’s going to be a hell of a data gathering [exercise] on Friday to see where we have improved, how everything is going to feel. And also for us getting back to speed in the 2020 car. So it’s going to be very different but I look forward to it."
Competitive car
For Ocon, this also means his real return to the track after a year's absence that lasted longer than anticipated because of the pandemic. "It’s been way too long, for sure. The wait last year was very difficult. This year it’s different, it’s a different feeling because I’m into a great team."
"I have a great challenge ahead with a competitive car and I look forward to restart, for sure", says the Frenchman who stresses again a moment later not to be able to wait, "I knew why I was working for, I knew how much I wanted and I’m hungry to restart for sure."
