Max Verstappen isn't currently focused on the world title, as he made clear in Bahrain. But is the situation already so dire that a championship win is out of the question after just four races? After the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, the statement was made: 'Verstappen can’t become champion in 2025.'
Looking at the standings, one could argue that Verstappen is still very much in the hunt for the world title, with just an eight-point gap to Lando Norris, who currently leads the championship. His McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri sits just three points behind the Brit after winning the race in the desert in impressive fashion. Piastri's performance was reminiscent of one of Verstappen's signature lights to flag victories.
The reality on track tells a different story to that almost bygone era. The issues facing Red Bull Racing were especially evident in Bahrain. Verstappen was fortunate to finish in sixth place, while Tsunoda came home ninth at the Bahrain International Circuit. Double points for the Milton Keynes-based squad, but not the kind they'd appreciate. They already sit 80 points behind McLaren in the Constructors' Championship.
Despite holding off both McLaren's just last week in Japan, Max Verstappen seemed frustrated and out of sorts with his car's inconsistency in Bahrain.
Verstappen himself isn’t focused on the world title just yet, but what’s your take on the situation?
