Lewis Hamilton has been in the news a lot in recent weeks when, in the light of the protests against racism, he spoke to the Formula 1 world about their alleged lack of diversity. He also said that he was keeping an eye on the people who remained silent in this discussion.

Many fans and followers interpreted this statement as a direct reference to certain drivers, but according to Hamilton this was not his intention. In a video call for Daimler's Youtube channel he explains why.

"People saw that as targeting certain drivers, but it really wasn't like that. I targeted the whole industry with that. It's something I've been aware of for a long time. And I didn't see anyone doing anything about it."

As many people as possible should speak out

"Today we all have a platform we can use. Our voice weighs very heavily. If you don't come out and encourage people to understand what this is about, it's frustrating for me. That silence is something I've been experiencing for so long and now is not the time to be quiet."

Hamilton continues that this should be the moment when everyone comes together to support this goal. This requires as many different voices as possible to make change possible, according to the six-time world champion.
