Alonso in Ricciardo's car this season? "I'd seriously consider it"
- GPblog.com
If we may believe the latest reports, everything indicates that Renault announces Wednesday that it will announce Fernando Alonso for two years. He will be the replacement for Daniel Ricciardo, who will leave for McLaren in 2021.
Alonso returns to Formula 1 after two years of absence. His last race driven was the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2018. At that time he was still driving for McLaren, who didn't built a great car that season.
The regulations haven't changed since then, but the cars have become a lot faster, especially in midfield. Therefore, according to Karun Chandhok, it wouldn't hurt to allow Alonso some time in Ricciardo's car in 2020. According to the Indian it would only be beneficial for the team.
If I was @RenaultF1Team , I would seriously think about giving Fernando some Friday sessions in Daniel’s car this year. Not much testing, stable rules, may as well get his feedback early to get prepped for 2021....

Return à la Raikkonen
The return of Alonso is very reminiscent of that of Kimi Raikkonen in 2012. The fin had also turned its back on Formula 1 for two years and experimented with other racing classes. He returned to Lotus (the current Renault) and had an extremely successful season. He won a race and finished third in the championship, something that was considered impossible for the season.
