The internet reacts: 'How long before Renault realizes it's leaving again?'
- GPblog.com
Today, Wednesday July the 8th, Renault announced what everyone expected: Fernando Alonso returns to Formula 1. The Spanish world champion will take over the seat of Daniel Ricciardo next year, who in turn will leave for McLaren. Of course the announcement generated a lot of reactions and we have listed a selection of them below.
Positive sounds with a critical note
Most reports from some prominent people in and around the sport are positive. Carlos Sainz is happy to see him again and so is Chase Carey from Liberty Media. On the other hand there are also critical/other sounds to be heard, because how long will Alonso stay with Renault Matt Gallagher wonders with a wink. Jake Dennis rightly raises a point, because what exactly is the driver academy of Renault for? Anyway, the reactions below.

Chase Carey “It’s great news that two time World Champion, Fernando Alonso, will return to Formula 1 with Renault next year. He is an incredible talent and we can’t wait to have him back on the grid in 2021.”https://t.co/WiYggwdpGQ

Didn’t honestly think I would have the chance to speak with Fernando on the F1 grid again as a driver. Time to beef up the Renault throttle pedal for some heavy action. Wonder how he will do against the new kids in town at 39 yrs old. Just fine I suspect. pic.twitter.com/8xW4tdKTUa
