Horner believes Mercedes could have been hiding some of their pace
Max Verstappen was the fastest driver on Friday afternoon in the second free practice session. Behind him was Valtteri Bottas, with Lewis Hamilton was back in sixth position. Christian Horner thinks Mercedes could have been hiding some of their real ability.
Verstappen went for the fast lap with the idea that it might be his qualifying time if the weather gods threw a spanner in the works. With FP3 now cancelled it is looking like a decent plan with qualifying also in doubt.
Progress at Red Bull
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is satisfied with the performance of the RB16.
"I think we've made progress since last week when I compare the two Fridays, so that's encouraging," he says as quoted by Motorsport.com.
“Mercedes is still strong, they are probably still sandbagging a little bit, but yeah, I think we've improved our car. And hopefully we can score some points this weekend unlike last weekend.
“We obviously have been working hard on the setup and both drivers tried different things,” he added.
“But basically, we have made progress. The car isn't easy to drive, it is a tricky little circuit. But I think that we have managed to improve in areas that we were not as strong in last week.”
