Ferrari acknowledges the loss of engine power: "Lost performance because of this"
- GPblog.com
For the first time Ferrari has said out loud that this season's underperformance is due to the fact that the 2020 engine is not as strong as last year's engine. Until now the race team from Maranello reacted a bit shady when asked, but during the press conference of the Hungarian Grand Prix this has come to an end.
"The rules are quite difficult and complex. I think there are still areas that need clarification. This is an ongoing process that has always existed and will continue to exist in the future," says Binotto in the presence of Autosport.com and others.
Were other suppliers affected as well?
Ferrari's team boss acknowledges that the new FIA guidelines have been detrimental to Ferrari. "Since last year a lot of technical guidelines have been issued, which have provided clarity in some areas. I think we have had to adapt because of these guidelines. We have lost performance because of this," said the Italian Chief. He would also like to mention that other engine suppliers also had to adapt last winter.
Remarkably, all Ferrari-powered cars are up to a second slower than 2019. Alfa Romeo Racing, Haas F1 and Ferrari themselves are not fast enough on the straights and for some teams in Formula 1 this is confirmation that the Italian engine of 2019 was illegal. The FIA and Ferrari still have the agreement not to reveal anything about the investigation that was completed at the end of February.
