Honda insists on Saturday: "We have to use that time very efficiently"

Friday in Hungary was not optimal for Honda either. Pierre Gasly had to watch the first free practice because of electronic problems, while the second free practice was almost impossible to test because of the rain on the circuit. Toyoharu Tanabe, Honda's technical director, therefore expects Saturday to be very important.
"We already knew from the weather forecast earlier this week that the weather was going to be bad in Hungary and today it turned out to be so", Tanabe starts in the press release of Honda. "There was still light rain in VT1, which allowed the cars to enter the track on slicks. In the second free practice, however, the conditions were much worse with heavy rain".
A lot of data needed in VT3
"That's why none of our cars could spend much time on the track," explains Tanabe. Due to the limited Friday dates, there will be more driving on Saturday, the Japanese expect. "So we have to spend our time very efficiently on Saturday morning during VT3 to work on our PU for qualifying and the race".
Tanabe was clear about the problem of Gasly during the first free practice. "We found an anomaly in Gasly's PU data during VT1. As a precaution we had to replace some parts and during VT2 everything went smoothly", Tanabe concludes.
