Verstappen emphasizes that the problem cannot be solved with adjustment
On Saturday in Hungary, Max Verstappen had one of the most difficult qualifying sessions of his career. He had trouble finding the right balance in the car all weekend and after the team had worked all night, he still couldn't find it. The problem can't be solved with the setup of the car.
"We just don't have a good balance in the corners. Understeer, oversteer, lack of grip and low top speed. All in all, it makes us slow. If we understood what's wrong, we'd do something about it," said Verstappen to GPblog.com.
"It's not the adjustment. Then I would have to blame my engineer, but that's certainly not the case."
According to Verstappen, it's not the case that one lap is better than the other. The problems are structural. As soon as he looks for the limit, he quickly loses control.
Verstappen doesn't think about the championship
Everyone is now asking whether Red Bull Racing and Verstappen can challenge the Mercedes at all this season. The Dutchman expected to be a key component in this season and the one to take the challenge to Mercedes. Verstappen doesn't want to think too much about that. He just wants to solve the current problems as soon as possible.
"I haven't thought that far ahead yet. I honestly hope that this is our worst weekend and we can make up for this in the coming races. But it's not as if it's just this weekend that's bothering us. So far this is just a difficult car to drive," he concluded.
