Completely new engine for Kvyat; Albon and Gasly get new parts
- GPblog.com
The FIA have just announced that three out of four drivers who use a Honda engine will receive new parts today. These are new parts for Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon where Daniil Kvyat will get a completely new engine. Max Verstappen does not appear in the documents, so he will continue to ride with his current equipment.
No penalties
When replacing engine parts, the question always arises whether there are penalties, but that is not the case now. Everything is still within the maximum of exchangeable parts, so no one will face a grid penalty when they start qualifying.
Kvyat's car will be tinkered with the most, because what will be replaced is the ICE, TC, MGU-H, MGU-K, ES and CE (see the images below for further explanation). Kvyat has used one of these to date, so he remains free of reprimands.
For Pierre Gasly, the ES will be renewed and at Alexander Albon the TC and MGU-H. Alpha Tauri will have to work hard to get Kvyat's car ready for this afternoon's second free practice session. Max Verstappen will stay out of harm's way and will drive the second free practice without new parts.
