For Alexander Albon, the first free practice session in Barcelona was far from optimal. In the first free practice session, the Red Bull Racing driver was eighth fastest, almost a whole second slower than his team mate. Halfway through the first free practice session he also had engine problems, which forced him into the pits early.

According to Christian Horner, Albon did not experience any major problems. "He had a small problem in his fast lap. But it wasn't dramatic. It was an electrical signal and everything was back to normal when we reset that sensor," Horner explained to Sky Sports.

Mercedes will be strong

The fact that Albon got the problem in his fastest lap is also evident in the times, as he is clearly in eighth place in midfield. Horner expects the weekend to be dominated by Mercedes and their fight with Verstappen. "Mercedes will be very strong here."

"We saw that in the first free practice. Hopefully we can at least put more pressure on them here", Horner concludes hopefully. Whether Verstappen can really fight with Mercedes also depends on the weather conditions, which so far seem to play in favor of the Red Bull, which is better on a warmer circuit.
