Red Bull faster in qualifying than last year, Mercedes and Ferrari slower
- GPblog.com
This year's Spanish Grand Prix will be held in August. This is a huge difference compared to the normal picture, because the race is usually held in May. Because of the warmer temperatures the conditions are totally different and there are also differences in the fastest lap of each team. These are compared to the fastest laps of 2019.
What immediately stands out from the comparison is that Racing Point and Williams are a lot faster than last year. Seven out of ten teams have improved their time compared to 2019, while Mercedes, Ferrari and Haas have set worse times. In addition to Racing Point and Williams, McLaren, AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo have also made progress, with each team gaining four tenths, compared to 15 months earlier.
Red Bull just a little faster
The two teams that managed to drive almost the same time were Renault and Red Bull Racing. They both managed to improve their time, but it's not a big change compared to last year. So the times of Mercedes, Ferrari and Haas are worse than the times in 2019, although Mercedes is on pole again this year. However, Ferrari and Haas have lost a lot of places in one year.
