'Racing Point had access to Mercedes scale- and show model'
- GPblog.com
Racing Point is accused by a significant part of the paddock of having copied the car of Mercedes. Their car resembles the W11 so much that it is difficult for them to deny that, but they have always said that they have simply studied the photos well.
Colin Kolles, in the past for years the team boss of what is now Racing Point, refers this explanation to the realm of fables. According to him it is not at all possible to copy the concept of a car so extensively on the basis of photographic material. In fact, he says he knows that Racing Point just had the models of the W11 in their hands.
"You can't copy a car from a photo," Kolles told German tv-channel Sport1. "It's not just about the brake ducts, it's about the whole concept of the car. They didn't just copy that from photos."
Toto Wolff and Mercedes are suspect as well
"I was told that they not only had parts, but also certain data, including a wind tunnel model at 60 percent of the size and a show model as an example. Parts were scanned and converted into CAD data. Otherwise, the concept would never work."
Kolles not only points the finger at the people of Racing Point, but also Toto Wolff. According to him, the relationship between Wolff and Stroll is suspiciously close. "As the Mercedes group, I'd wonder why our team boss is always on vacation on his [Stroll's] boat"
