F1 drivers can't wait for possible new addition on calendar: "Mega circuit"
- GPblog.com
A Grand Prix in Istanbul is not certain yet although it seems a matter of time before a confirmation comes. Formula 1 will probably return to Istanbul Park in Turkey. If it is up to the drivers they will race there today rather than tomorrow.
The circuit that was on the Formula 1 calendar for the first time in 2005 seems to return once this year because of the current pandemic. Should it actually happen, the circuit can count on many compliments from a number of current Formula 1 drivers. To Motorsport.com they are very positive.
Bloody awesome
For nine years the GP of Turkey hasn't been on the calender anymore but according to Romain Grosjean the Formula 1 circus is allowed to visit Turkey every year: "It would be mega", says Grosjean if Formula 1 organizes a Grand Prix there this year. "I think it would be bloody awesome. It's such a great track. Turn eight is good for your neck and I think it's going to be very fast." According to many, this is one of the most spectacular corners in the world.
Max Verstappen's team mate is also looking forward to the track. Alexander Albon thinks turn eight can easily be full throttle: "I don't think we need to try that but it's still fun". The Red Bull driver doesn't think they'll have to get off the throttle in this corner with today's cars. Albon continues and is complimentary to the policy makers: "The track looks really cool, I'm looking forward to it. Liberty Media and the Formula 1 are doing great by choosing circuits like this. I don't know if it's a coincidence but we're going with Imola , Mugello and Turkey along the best tracks in the world".
Ocon also positive
The French driver at Renault also looks forward to Istanbul as if he has never driven there: "It is a fantastic circuit, old-school. I always watched it on TV when I was younger. The left turn is going to be impressive at full throttle."
Some of the drivers who are now on the grid have already driven Formula 1 at the Istanbul circuit. These are of course the older gentlemen: Hamilton, Raikkonen, Vettel and Perez. All we have to do now is wait for the final confirmation.
