Van der Zande sees replacement for Albon: "He doesn't have to beat Max"

In fact, Alexander Albon has been underperforming all season long. While teammate Max Verstappen takes podium after podium for Red Bull Racing, Albon fights with the midfielders. Renger van der Zande is already thinking about a possible successor to the Thai.
Ideal replacement
"I see a very nice replacement in Nico Hülkenberg", says the IMSA driver in the last episode of Ziggo Sport's Formula 1 Café. "He is at the end of his career and doesn't necessarily have to beat Max. A young driver wants to."
Van der Zande also says that a driver with more experience can also help a lot in setting up the car. "He won't compete with Max, but he can challenge him. And then there will also be podiums."
Humiliation
Red Bull often showed no mercy when it came to the treatment of its drivers. Nevertheless, the team continues to stand up for Albon time and again. According to van der Zande, this is because the team currently has no replacement for the Thai: "He is humiliated the way Pierre Gasly was humiliated", he concludes.
