"We take softer tyres with us even though we expect higher speeds"

The Grand Prix of Belgium is coming up. The seventh round of the 2020 championship will be held at Spa Francorchamps. For this race Pirelli has chosen a soft tyre menu. Mario Isola looks ahead to the race and explains the choice of rubber.
High speeds on Spa with soft tyres
In a Pirelli press statement, the Italian says: "Spa's reputation speaks for itself. It is a traditional job with a lot of height difference and other variables. That's why the drivers often love it here".
"We have chosen a softer set of tyres this year than last year, even though we expect the cars to be much faster this year. The first races of the season have already shown that".
Lots of relevant data available at Spa
Isola continues: "Spa is one of the few races this year to be held on the same date as normal. The teams will therefore already have many relevant data, even though Spa is one of the most difficult tracks to predict. Drivers and teams who can adapt well will be able to get the most out of it this weekend".
"Another interesting point to note is what the effect will be of cancellation of the 24 Hours of Spa this year. Normally this event is held a few weeks before the GP. In that time the rubber has actually always been washed away by the rain".
"Finally, the most important point; I am sure that this weekend Anthoine Hubert is in everyone's mind. We would all like to honour him one year after his death".
