Gasly: "We went almost 300 km/h there, and Perez almost pushed me into the wall"

Pierre Gasly drove a very good race at Spa and finally managed to reward himself and his team with a deserved eighth place finish. Before that, the Frenchman made a number of daring overtakes, the best being the move on Sergio Perez at Eau Rouge. Afterwards, the driver from AlphaTauri indicated that he was thinking of the worst during the overtake.
"To be honest, I really thought I was going to hit the wall. I'm not joking when I say I couldn't go further to the right. At that point we were heading towards 300 kilometres per hour," explains Gasly to Motorsport.com. "Sergio put enormous pressure on me and it seemed as if he really did not want to give up his position."
Being sure of overtake
"My heart rate certainly went up as he approached. I know Sergio is a difficult driver," the French driver indicates that he was not thinking of ignoring the Mexican. "I was very focused and I had decided that I was not going to take my foot off the throttle. I wanted to be sure that I could make the overtake work."
It succeeded and in the end, the Frenchman managed to drive to eighth place. "At the start of the race, it was still difficult compared to my competition. I had the hardest tyre and the drivers around me riding on the medium. I just tried to stay close and fortunately, that went well from the start," Gasly concluded.
