Verstappen gets new gearbox for Italian Grand Prix
- GPblog.com
Three drivers will drive the rest of the weekend in Italy with a different gearbox. Max Verstappen, Lance Stroll and Antonio Giovinazzi do not want to take any risks and have therefore decided to change gearboxes (as a precaution).
None of the men will receive a grid penalty for changing gearboxes. That is because Verstappen and Stroll have taken back an older gearbox that has been used earlier in the season. For Giovinazzi, he didn't finish the race at Spa-Francorchamps, so he will be able to change gearboxes without a penalty.
In all likelihood, after his crash in the first free practice session with Red Bull Racing, Verstappen will have decided to fit a new gearbox. Whether the replaced gearbox can still be used later in the season or whether it has been written off is not known.
