Tost does not expect a Gasly departure: "Pretty optimistic that Pierre will stay"
Pierre Gasly has been performing extremely well at AlphaTauri in recent weeks and his chances of returning to Red Bull Racing are increasing by the week, especially since Alexander Albon still hasn't found his feet next to Max Verstappen. Franz Tost, however, does not think a departure from the Frenchman will happen.
"He's very motivated. He was like that last year when he came back from Red Bull. He said it felt like coming home to family. I'm afraid we're going to lose him again," Tost said to Motorsport.com. "If so, it means that our team has done well. Otherwise, that wouldn't happen. I am quite optimistic at the moment that Pierre will stay with us."
Gasly did excellent business in the World Championship by taking 25 points at Monza. The 24-year-old climbed from twelfth to eighth and is now competing for fourth place as the difference between him and Lance Stroll is only 14 points.
Honda is praised
Tost also praises the Japanese engine supplier. "Our big thanks go to Honda for the powerful engine and the fantastic cooperation," concluded the Austrian team boss.
