Wolff rules out departure from Mercedes: "I'll stay involved somehow"
A Toto Wolff departure from Mercedes is out of the question at the moment. That's what the team boss of the German team said after the Italian Grand Prix. Whether Wolff will stay as team boss in the coming years is still uncertain, but at least he will remain involved with the Mercedes team in Formula 1.
"I love this team and I think this is my place," Wolff is quoted by the BBC. The Austrian indicates that his role as team boss takes a lot of energy. "Eight years in this role takes its toll and that's something I'm thinking about. It is important to make the right decision for my family or myself, but you can be sure that I will remain involved in this team in one way or another."
The 48 year old Austrian has until December 31st to make a choice about his future. He's not in much of a hurry, he says. The ties with Daimler's parent company are excellent in any case. "I get along great with (CEO) Ola Kallenius."
Mercedes on track for a new world title
With Mercedes, Wolff is aiming for the seventh world title in a row. It seems a certainty that the world championship will once again go to the German team, as Red Bull Racing will not be competitive enough in 2020. In the drivers' championship, Hamilton defends a 53 point lead over Max Verstappen, and the difference with Red Bull is already almost unbridgeable at 106 points.
