Mick Schumacher is going to make his (official) debut in Formula 1, the German branch of RTL announces Wednesday afternoon. The Formula 2 driver will make his appearance during the first free practice, but it is not yet clear which team this will be with.

Schumacher will most likely spend an hour and a half in action for Haas F1 or Alfa Romeo Racing. These two teams drive with Ferrari engines and the Italians have agreed that their own juniors will be given the opportunity to make the necessary kilometres a few times a season.

The son of Michael Schumacher has a good season in Formula 2. Whereas last year he had a particularly tough time in the step-up class, he is currently runner-up in the World Championship. Prema's driver only has to close a gap of six points to list leader Callum Illot. Before that, the German has three more weekends.

There is a chance that the 22-year-old driver will be driving in Formula 1 next year. At Alfa Romeo they could very well say goodbye to Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi and at Haas F1 rumours are also seeping through that they want to get rid of Romain Grosjean and/or Kevin Magnussen.
