Wolff: "It's great to see Ferrari in their 1,000th Grand Prix with a car up in P5"

Mercedes, as expected, were the fastest in qualifying for the Tuscan Grand Prix. However, the gap with Max Verstappen during the weekend was very small. Team boss Toto Wolff is very happy that he succeeded in claiming the front row for Mercedes.
This puts Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in a good starting position, because overtaking will not be easy here. Nevertheless, Wolff certainly does not want to assume a victory. "We have all the ingredients for an exciting race tomorrow, with both Red Bulls behind us and it's also great to see Ferrari in their 1,000th Grand Prix with a car up in P5."
Tyres are an uncertain factor at Mugello
It is debatable whether Ferrari thinks that is so great, but there is no doubt that Charles Leclerc drove a super qualifying session. During the race he will probably see the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers disappear over the horizon, although Wolff thinks there is still a lot of uncertainty over the race.
"We're flying a little bit blind for the race, with it being a brand-new track for F1. Our long runs in practice actually weren't that long so there are still some unknowns. We'll have to see how the tyres last and whether it will be a one or a two-stop, but there are a few strategic options and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I'm really looking forward to a good race tomorrow."
