Marko dismisses rumours about Newey: "Adrian is definitely under contract with us"
The Italian newspapers La Gazzetta Dello Sport and Corriere Dello Sport suggest that Racing Point are looking to lure Adrian Newey from Red Bull Racing. The British racing team would like to reunite the 61-year-old top designer with Sebastian Vettel in 2021, but according to Helmut Marko, this will not happen.
Vettel and Newey worked very successfully together at Red Bull between 2010 and 2013. The two men have won eight world titles (four drivers and four constructors) and Lawrence Stroll is said to be planning a new partnership. Racing Point will be called the Aston Martin F1 Team next year and Newey has very good ties with the car brand Aston Martin. He recently designed the Valkyrie hypercar.
Red Bull not worried
At Red Bull, however, they are not worried, according to the words of Marko when talking to the German Auto Bild. "Adrian is certainly under contract with us," said the Milton Keynes-based team's advisor.
There has been talk recently between Newey and the Stroll camp, but this meant nothing. "Adrian recently got to test a rare Aston Martin and thanked Stroll for it. Nothing more," said Marko.
