Ferrari were supposed to come out of the blocks fighting for the top prizes. However, the team's form is not strong enough to challenge for poles and wins. The Scuderia's boss, Frederic Vasseur, knows why, and has hopeful words for all the Tifosi. While Ferrari's pace has been completely off of the leaders', in Bahrain for a brief period of the race, the Italians seemed to be very much in contention for at least a podium.
"I think it’s true that this stint went well for us. But now the issue – or the project – is to be much more consistent, [than] to have a good stint in the race or a good stint in Q3 or Q2. If we want to come back and fight for the win, we need to have much more consistent weekends," said Vasseur during an FIA press session in Jeddah.
'Ferrari are on the edge with the tyres'
Five
F1 race weekends down, and Ferrari only have on top 3 finish to their name,
Charles Leclerc's P3 in Jeddah, aside from
Lewis Hamilton's outlier Sprint race win in China, of course.
"But I think it was a good example – even China – the Sprint Race and the Sprint Quali went well. And as you can imagine, we didn’t turn the car upside down after winning the first one the day after."
"We are really on the edge. I don’t want to speak about the others, but as soon as you push a bit too much, you pay the price with the tyres the corner after. It’s really on the edge, very difficult to find the right balance. But we are improving in this direction."
Ferrari's current form, and Hamilton's inability to come to grips with the SF-25 have prompted questions regarding the Briton's performance in F1, with the 7-time world champion himself being
absolutely dejected in statements to the media.Do you think Ferrari will be able to turn their season around in time to fight for the titles?
