Leclerc should take an example from Verstappen: 'Should do it the same way'
Charles Leclerc was on the podium twice in the first four races this season, but it clear to everyone that Ferrari were not at the desired level. According to Jacques Villeneuve, this is a good test for the young Monegasque.
That's where it went wrong for Ferrari
Leclerc was doing well. He had a strong debut year with Alfa Romeo and was immediately allowed to switch to Ferrari. There he took seven poles and two wins in his first year. There, however, it also went wrong within Ferrari.
"Things went wrong within Ferrari when she signed Leclerc. Everyone fell in love with that boy who had never won and that was difficult for a four-time world champion like Sebastian Vettel. Take 2020. With his experience, he should have just stood in front of his teammate, but that is not the case," Jacques Villeneuve told Corriere della Sera.
Leclerc has to look at Verstappen
In 2020, however, it will also be a lot more difficult for Leclerc. The Monegasque is doing a lot better than Vettel, but eighth place in the standings is not where he would have liked to be. "This is tough for him because his career has always improved and now he has to work on himself as a person. We will now see whether he is a fast driver or really a champion," says the Canadian, who also draws the comparison with rival Verstappen.
"He has to do it just like Verstappen. In the beginning Max was strong, but he still made mistakes. However, he has now built the team around him. I believe that Leclerc has those same qualities, but you will only really see that in difficult moments," the 1997 world champion concluded.
