It was a highlight of silly season this year. Fernando Alonso who will return to Renault as from next year. He has signed for two seasons. Since the announcement there are many rumours about when the Spaniard will board a Renault for the first time, because there are not that many test moments. The first moment now seems imminent.
Formula 1 journalist Albert Fabrega thinks he knows. The Spanish journalist thinks his famous compatriot will be in action next Tuesday during a film day of the French team on the Barcelona circuit. Alonso would finish a test programme in the 2020 car during the film day. These would then be his first meters. According to Fabrega, Renault is also working on a second test day in 2021, only then the Spaniard will have to drive a car from 2018.
At an earlier stage Renault wanted Alonso to drive the test day after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but the FIA did not approve. It is the reason why the French are eagerly looking for another moment when the two-time world champion can make some test hours in their current car.
