Haas urges Ilott to take it easy

Besides Mick Schumacher, Callum Ilott will also make his debut during a Grand Prix weekend this Friday. During the first free practice of the Eifel Grand Prix he will drive for Haas for the first time. Guenther Steiner, however, doesn't want to put too much pressure on the young driver.
Take it easy
Ilott, who is currently second in the Formula 2 Championship, will take the place of Romain Grosjean in the first free practice session this Friday. Guenther Steiner doesn't want to put too much pressure on the driver, however. "He needs to do the same as our regular drivers. Maybe he should take it easy, because it looks like it's going to rain", said the Haas team boss to Motorsportweek.com.
Steiner also says he is taking into account the fact that Ilott is driving a free practice session in a Formula 1 car for the first time. "It's all new to him and there is a lot of pressure. We will focus on consistency and the feedback he gives us. That's what we judge new drivers on, more than lap times".
It's not the first time Ilott has driven a Formula 1 car. In 2019 he drove 41 laps during a test day for Alfa Romeo, which ended in a crash.
