With the departure of Honda in F1, Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri have to look for a new engine supplier for 2022. Pierre Gasly has achieved his first podium and victory with Honda as the powerhouse and he is disappointed that they have announced to leave the sport.
"I do not think they will disappoint anyone, because there are strategic reasons behind the decision. I also think it's the right decision for them," explained Gasly. Motorsport-Total.com. So, although the departure may be good for the Japanese engine manufacturer, it will be a bitter pill for the teams, as the potential was great.
World champions within three years?
"When I look at our situation, I would of course have liked them to continue in Formula 1. I had an enormously good future in mind with Honda. So far they have been fighting continuously for victories and podiums.
"If you look at where they are now, they could have been world champions within three years. Of course I don't know all the details, so that's not sure, but I think it was possible," concluded Gasly.
