Verstappen: 'New parts worked well, but couldn't get rid of understeer'
Max Verstappen starts from third position in the Eifel Grand Prix after a brief apperance in P1 during the final qualifying session. The Dutchman says he had a lot of understeer. The podium is Sunday's goal.
“Yes, we were talking about the tires and stuff. And that we should actually race on the Nordschleife!" Says Verstappen about his meeting with Lewis Hamilton after qualifying in a conversation on Ziggo Sport. Verstappen suffered from understeer today. “The new parts that came on the car felt good, but we couldn't get the understeer out. With these temperatures, the front tyres will "grain" and then the rubber will get too warm and you will get even more understeer. "
Mercedes still faster
“Overall a very good qualifying session. But they [Mercedes] are still faster than us. We have to keep a close eye on everything during the race and how everything feels," Verstappen continues.
The Dutchman is happy that they only had one day to train. “Didn't miss it. I like it better for myself. Then nobody can view data or onboards and you have to do everything in one day. Then of course you have to be lucky that the set-up is right from the start. The podium is certainly the goal," the Red Bull Racing driver concludes.
