Verstappen and Stroll called to the stewards over FP2 incident
Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll have to report to the stewards because of their collision in the first corner of the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao. The pair caused the second red flag in FP2.
Second red flag
The first red flag was caused by Pierre Gasly's burning AlphaTauri. When the session started again with less than half an hour to go, it was soon out again. Verstappen wanted to overtake Stroll, but the Racing Point driver didn't seem to have seen the Dutchman at all, resulting in a hard collision.
Although Stroll had just completed a fast lap and Verstappen wanted to start a fast lap, both drivers drove with their DRS open towards the first corner. GP Update reports that Racing Point has now announced that Stroll was going for a second flying lap. In the end, Verstappen was able to continue on his way to the pits and was able to finish the session. For Stroll, the session was over after the clash.
Report to the stewards
"Man, is this guy blind? What's wrong with him? What an idiot," Verstappen shouted over the onboard radio. He clearly blames Stroll for the incident, despite going for an unnecessary move straight into the side of the Racing Point.
