"That Gasly was released far too early last year"
Alexander Albon struggled on the Portimao circuit. He had a bad start but was unable to move forward during the race. He was even lapped by his teammate. Pierre Gasly, meanwhile, drove a very strong race and finished fifth for Toro Rosso. Two former F1 drivers analyse his race for Ziggo Sport.
“Take a look at Albon and Gasly”, says Giedo van der Garde in the studio of Ziggo Sport. “Only one point difference. That says enough. To be honest, Gasly was released far too early last year. You can now see what he achieves again this year, just drove a top race today. ”
'Albon can finish the year'
It is then suggested by the presenter that the Red Bull is probably not an easy car to drive. “Certainly not, but on the other hand, he is still five or six tenths behind with qualifying. Gasly did that perhaps even better than Albon ”, says Van der Garde.
“That perfect weekend did not work out for Albon, we can see that,” adds Robert Doornbos. “That's not great, but luckily he can go again in a few days. He'll finish the season. It doesn't make much sense to change that now and you give him the chance to earn that seat, but with this level, he will not achieve that of course. ”
