FP1 full result in Imola: Hamilton the fastest, Verstappen behind
- GPblog.com
The only free practice session at Imola this weekend has just ended. It promises to be an exciting qualifying session because the top three cars were close together.
Because of the travel time, the FIA has decided to make this Grand Prix weekend a two-day event. This gave the teams enough time to drive all their gear from the south of Portugal to Italy. So it was a unique situation, which caused us to see a lot of action on the track. To gather enough data, the drivers had to drive a lot of laps.
Hamilton the fastest
In the end, Lewis Hamilton was the fastest. The Brit had a 1:14.726 written down on the soft tyre. Three tenths behind that was Max Verstappen, who managed to split the two Mercedes again. Bottas follows half a second from his teammate, but it seems that the Finn hasn't shown the back of his tongue so far.
Furthermore, Gasly did very well, with a fourth place. Behind him came Charles Leclerc, who complained a lot about understeer during practice. Both Renaults also did well again. Ricciardo and Ocon finished sixth and seventh respectively. Kvyat of AlphaTauri shows encouraging things for him, he scored the eighth fastest time. Albon and Stroll complemented the top ten.
