F1 times: Different starting time for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Sunday!
- GPblog.com
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix makes its debut this weekend, but Formula 1 has raced in Imola before. Normally there would've already been two practice sessions on Friday, before the drivers qualify on Saturday. This weekend, however, it is all slightly different, including the time that the race starts.
Traditionally, European races start normally at 2:10 PM [UK time]. However, that is not the case this weekend. F1 has opted for the Grand Prix in Imola to start at 12:10 [UK time] which is a lot earlier than the other races on European soil. After the support race, namely the Formula Renault Eurocup, has ended, the F1 teams and drivers are allowed to prepare for the Grand Prix.
63 laps in Imola
The two drivers of Mercedes and Max Verstappen will all start on the yellow medium tyre. The rest in the top ten have to start the race on the softest red tyre. Outside the top ten, everyone has free choice, but it is expected that no team will choose the red tyre to start with.
The formation lap will continue at 2:10 PM, before the 20 F1 cars will drive 63 laps around the iconic circuit in Imola. It remains to be seen whether many overtaking actions will take place. In any case, it promises to be another unique Grand Prix, with F1 racing again at Imola for the first time since 2006.
