Hamilton: 'I changed a lot about the car'

Lewis Hamilton made a striking switch from McLaren to Mercedes in 2013. Many people thought that this was not the right choice for Hamilton, but according to him it was important to make your own choices.
Making your own choices
"Everyone around me told me to stay with McLaren. Even my father told me to stay with McLaren. And what I did at that time was listen to myself", says Hamilton at Ziggo Sport.
"And whatever decision I made, I had to be the one who had to deal with the consequences if I continued. And I think it's very important that people are themselves and do what suits them. And don't do what people expect you to do", continues the six-time world champion.
Big changes
Hamilton says it was a great step for him at the time. Despite the fact that Mercedes only made its comeback in F1 in 2010 and only managed to win one race in those three years, he was sure that this was the best choice. "I came to the factory and I changed a lot about the car. There was a lot of respect for each other, the guys were so excited that we just worked and immediately made big steps and won a championship in the second year", says the Brit.
Hamilton says that Mercedes and he see every year as a new start. "We see every year as if this is the first year I joined the team. It really is a dream."
