Red Bull are set to drop Alex Albon at the end of 2020, with the question now surrounding whether he will drive for Alpha Tauri or not at all in F1 next season. The Thai may even lose his place in Formula 1 with Yuki Tsunoda a candidate for an Alpha Tauri seat.

Albon has been under pressure at Red Bull Racing for a year and a half now, but has been unable to meet expectations. After Pierre Gasly, the Thai is also no match for Max Verstappen and he just doesn't know how to get the best out of the RB16. According to sources from Formula1news.co.uk, Red Bull has already made the decision.

Albon his last chance

According to the source of this medium, Red Bull is convinced that Albon is not up to expectations and is not enough for a place at Red Bull in 2021. Red Bull then wants to be able to fight Mercedes for the world title and Albon is not good enough for that. Nico Hulkenberg or Sergio Perez are the most likely to replace Albon.

Albon's future in Formula 1 depends on Tsunoda. If Tsunoda gets his super license, he gets the chance at AlphaTauri and Albon has to pack his bags. Tsunoda has to finish in the top four of the Formula 2 championship, which is still completely open. The Japanese is now third, but it is a close fight for those positions in Formula 2.
