The 2020 calendar has been unique to say the least, with races being confirmed after the season had already begun Due to the coronavirus, the street circuits were left out of the equation and replaced by classic circuits. Toto Wolff has admitted he is happy with this change.
"I have often said that I disagree with the current direction we are taking in racing," explained Wolff to Speedweek.
"Racing on oversized parking lot takes away the driver's factor, a driver's skills."
Direct damage to the car
"I love a race in Imola or Mugello where you really have to be careful not to make any mistakes. Moreover, I think that you have to bring gravel back along the track, because then you know for sure that if you shoot off the track you really have damage to the car." Although gravel is not an option for every exit, Wolff does think that the FIA should consider which circuits are suitable for F1.
"I think you can always adapt the current tracks to the current standard, but the classic and historic tracks will always have an extra touch. I'm not a track designer but I only give feedback from an ex-driver's point of view and based on the TV images everyone has seen in Mugello, Portimao and Imola."
