Today the Formula 1 calendar for 2021 was announced, on which the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort is scheduled for September 5th. That seems like a nice date, as it gives a few months extra time with regard to the coronavirus crisis.
Dutch Grand Prix in September
In his column for De Telegraaf Jan Lammers explains why he is happy with that date. "My phone was red-hot on Tuesday. The date was already known last week, but now the whole calendar for next year officially came out. A great date for the entrepreneurs in Zandvoort. It fits in very well with the vacations and with a bit of luck the weather is also very nice at the beginning of September," writes the sports director of the circuit of Zandvoort.
"Last year, Formula 1 was due to return to Zandvoort at the beginning of May. Of course, that was also a great date, and we would have been the first European race of the year. September, on the other hand, has the advantage that we may be an important part towards the end of the season. It can be a lot more exciting then."
Lammers continues: "The entire organization in Zandvoort, including myself in my role as sports director, is now fully focused on plan A. We sincerely hope that next year we will master the fire with regard to the coronavirus. For the time being, we are confident that we can organize the event as we have always had it in mind. So with just over 100,000 spectators a day."
