Marko gets on a plane to Honda: "Looks like compromise can be reached"

Helmut Marko will soon be getting on a plane to Japan. The Red Bull Racing advisor will visit Honda's top executives to talk about using the manufacturer's facilities in 2022. Honda will stop being an engine supplier in Formula 1 after 2021 and an engine freeze does not seem to be coming, so Red Bull will have to look for a solution.
"There is nothing official yet, but there are talks, and it seems that a compromise can be reached," said Marko. The Austrian suspects that certain changes will follow, so that a freeze on engine regulations is not an option in 2021. Marko is most likely referring to the transition to biofuel planned after 2021.
Marko hopeful
It seems that early in 2022 is the appropriate time for Formula 1 to freeze the engine regulations. Honda could then help in the winter break after the 2021 season and then withdraw. "There is movement, the glass is half full or half empty, but I feel we are on the positive side," he said.
There will soon be more than just talk with Honda about how to get on with the engines in the pinnacle of motorsport. There will also be talk about the future of Yuki Tsunoda, a Japanese Formula 2 driver, and Red Bull's involvement in Super Formula and the GT programme, according to Marko. "But of course Formula 1 has absolute priority," concluded Marko.
