Different rumours about new Hamilton contract
- GPblog.com
The drivers' market for 2021 has been largely locked up since the last few weeks. Nevertheless, two important seats are still uncertain for next year. These are, of course, the second seat at Red Bull Racing and the ongoing contract negotiations between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.
After the Grand Prix at the Imola circuit a fortnight ago, Hamilton announced that he is not at all sure if he will be driving Formula 1 next year. However, the chances of that really being the case are slim and it seems to have been mainly a tactical move in his negotiations with Toto Wolff.
Hamilton is going to earn a lot anyway
Yesterday, the Daily Mail said that Hamilton will sign up for three years and even receive a salary increase of GBP 4 million a year. However, the Italian press has picked up other reports.
Indeed, according to Corriere dello Sport, Hamilton is signing a one-year contract, with an option to extend for another year beyond 2021. The amount of money referred to there is reasonably in line with the Daily Mail's rumour that Hamilton would receive EUR 50 million for that one year.
