Lance Stroll took pole position during qualifying, but the stewards were investigating him after the session. In the end, the race control decided not to penalise the Canadian. Max Verstappen reacted maturely to the ruling.

The stewards have been busy today in Turkey. During qualifying there was not only a surprising polesitter, but plenty of other things happened on the track. Afterwards several drivers were called to the stewards' office, including Lance Stroll, for ignoring yellow flags. The Canadian avoids a penalty, while Lando Norris gets a grid penalty of five places for the same offence.

A penalty for Stroll would be the only way for Max Verstappen to still get a pole position today, despite the fact that he dominated most of the qualifying. Nevertheless, the Dutchman reacted maturely to the verdict. "It is what it is. If we wanted to be on pole we should have qualified better," the Dutchman tells De Telegraaf.

A clearly disappointed Verstappen

After qualifying, Verstappen was clearly disappointed in second place on the grid. Afterwards he was squatting against a wall in the paddock and was comforted by an employee of Red Bull Racing. "It's the first time I've been disappointed after qualifying this year. I think that says it all," he told the press. However, the situation looks good for Verstappen tomorrow. With second place on the grid and Mercedes cars in P6 and P9, he is in a good spot to take his second win of the season.
