Renault has made good progress in recent months, as demonstrated by the two podiums the team has achieved this year. But according to Daniel Ricciardo, there is still a big problem with the car.

At the GP in Turkey, the French team only managed to score one point. As a result, the battle for third place in the championship suddenly looks very different again. The race in Turkey initially started well but Ocon spun at Turn 1 and Ricciardo dropped down the order and they never recovered.

For a moment the fastest

During the race it became clear that Renault had chosen the wrong strategy for the tyres. An overly aggressive warm-up process caused the car to warm up its tyres at lightning speed. Ricciardo: "For a short moment I was one of the fastest drivers on the track, and two laps later my tyres were already worn," he says to Auto, Motor und Sport.

In a desperate attempt, the 31-year-old driver even changed to slicks. "But in some places there was still too much water on the track. In one corner it was dry, in the other it was soaking wet. If you go off the racing line, you are lost. So overtaking wouldn't have been possible either."
