Verstappen still confident 2020 has been his most successful season

With three races to go Max Verstappen is still only on one win and he might not get a proper chance to improve on it, given the form of Mercedes. Yet the Dutchman has called 2020 his best season in Formula 1 so far.
Max Verstappen made his debut in 2015 at Toro Rosso where he already achieved great results with two fourth places, but his first victory followed after his transfer to Red Bull Racing in 2016. In the following years he would win more and more often. He won two races in 2017 and 2018 and even three races in 2019. This year, however, Verstappen seems to be falling back to one race victory.
Verstappen points to Mercedes
''The fact that I only won one does not mean anything. You should not base such a judgement on victories, but on performance. And I will perform better this year than in 2019," said Verstappen according to NOS in Bahrain. The Dutchman saw the gap grow back to Mercedes this year and also points to that as a reason for his lack of victories.
''If it was something simple, we would have solved it. We are making progress, but Mercedes is also continuing to develop. It's difficult to say exactly where the problem lies." When asked what he needs to do to keep Lewis Hamilton away from an eighth world title, Verstappen was clear: ''More grip and more power."
