Hulkenberg: "Would be great if I could get a chance in the autumn of my career"

Nico Hulkenberg is one of the main candidates for the seat at Red Bull Racing next to Max Verstappen. Alexander Albon and Sergio Perez are the other contenders, but Hulkenberg hopes to finally get a chance with a top team.
Hulkenberg in the spotlight
Nico Hulkenberg has several big names on his Formula 1 CV, in the form of Sauber, Force India and Williams but he has never driven for a top team. He was close to a seat at Ferrari in 2014, but then Kimi Raikkonen was preferred. Because of that missed opportunity Hulkenberg still holds the record for most races without a podium.
"I didn't expect it to be my chance to win a seat on a top team now, so I'm glad it's going to be like this. I was once close to a deal with a top team, but it would be great if I could get a chance now in the autumn of my career. I just miss that competition too," said Hulkenberg to Sport1.de.
Verstappen and Hulkenberg
Hulkenberg also admitted he gets along well with Max Verstappen. "That's right, I've heard of him," joked the German. We get on well with each other. Max is more than a super talent, but that is not something I am going to worry about now. That's too far in the future."
"Our paths have crossed many times, but they were always parallel to each other. I have raced against many Red Bull juniors in the past and also in Formula 1. In Formula 1, however, it's not about having to apply for a job and your CV is very important. They know what your results are and they know how to judge drivers," concluded the German.
